Dr. Richard Warren Sauerman, beloved husband, father, and grandfather was taken home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, April 28 at 6:30pm. He passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Richard was born on July 6, 1938, in Moline, Illinois to Ethel and Fred Sauerman and was proceeded in death by his parents and dear sister, Marsha Shishman.
After graduating from the University of Illinois Medical School, Richard moved to Albuquerque to begin his OB/GYN residency at the University of New Mexico and then served in the Indian Public Health Service on the Zuni Indian Reservation. His OB/GYN career then began in earnest in Albuquerque where he brought more than 5,000 babies safely into the world over 50 years of practice.
Richard's love of practicing medicine and caring for his many patients over the years was exceeded only by his love and dedication to his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Sauerman, whom he met at Monmouth College in Illinois and married on July 7, 1962. Affectionately known as "B" and "D" (Barbara and Dick), they worked as a terrific team to create a wonderful life for their three children (Becky Sauerman-Miller, Rick Sauerman and Mark Sauerman) and nine grandchildren (Mackenzie, Jake and Bayley Miller, Luke, Izzy and Gabby Sauerman and Abby, Nick and Ben Sauerman), all of whom are residents of Albuquerque.
A memorial service celebrating Richard's life will be held at 11am on Friday, May 13, at Central United Methodist Church.
