Dr. Jerone N. Deverman
Jerone “Jer” Nelson Deverman, 79, passed away March 17, 2018 in Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He was surrounded by loving members of his family. Jer was born July 4, 1938 in Pekin, IL. His parents Wilmer and Elizabeth Deverman preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Wona Annette (nee Dodge). Jer and Wona Dodge Deverman were married in Belvidere, IL on September 4, 1960. The happy couple met at Purdue University.
He is survived by his eldest son, James Deverman of Albuquerque; his granddaughter, Elise Crockett and husband, Jaime of Eads, CO and great-grandson, Ayden; and his grandson, James Paul Deverman and wife, Shayna of Glen Elder, KS and great-grandson, Liam and great-granddaughter, Tinley. His youngest son, John Henry Deverman and wife, Eduvijes Martinez of Elmhurst, IL, also survive Jer Deverman, as well as grandsons, Henry Moises Deverman and Samuel Eli Deverman. Jer is also survived by his younger brother, Jimmy L. Deverman and wife, Donna of Pekin, IL; his nephew, Christopher and wife, Randi, daughter, Kinley, and son, Knoxwell Deverman, and his other nephew, Matthew and wife Melissa, and daughter, Elizabeth Deverman, all of Pekin.
He graduated valedictorian in his senior class of 1956 at Pekin Community High School. He enrolled in the College of Engineering at Purdue University in 1956, majoring in metallurgical engineering. He later transferred to the College of Science, majoring in mathematical statics at Purdue, where he was also an active member of the Army ROTC program. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree, Master’s Degree, and was awarded his PhD at Purdue University in 1969.
Following Purdue University and his obligation to the Army, Captain Deverman was sent to El Paso, TX for work on Joint Task Force 2. He then worked at Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, NM, Livermore Laboratories in Livermore, CA, and then returned back to Sandia Labs in 1970. Following his military obligation, he then worked for Dikewood Corporation in Albuquerque before eventually starting his own consulting business Medical Data Systems specializing in health care claims processing.
Funeral services for Jer Deverman will be Tuesday, March 20, 2018, 11:30 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd. NE, Albuquerque, 87111. A luncheon will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
