Dr. Elisabeth "Libby" Blanton

Dr. Elisabeth “Libby” Blanton (Drew) died peacefully in her sleep at her home on October 5, 2017 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 70.

Libby is survived by her husband Dr. James Rodney Blanton, Sr.; her sons Jonathan Drew Blanton and James Rodney Blanton, Jr.; her daughters Katherine Elisabeth Gibeau and Sarah Elizabeth Blanton; her three grandchildren Braden James Gibeau, Alex Ray Gibeau, and Amelia Drew Gibeau; and her “sister” and lifelong best friend Margaret F. Parmer. Libby is preceded in death by her parents William R. and Martha J. Drew.

Libby was born on October 19, 1946 in LaFayette, Georgia. She grew up in Rome, Georgia where she attended Saint Mary’s Catholic School. Libby graduated high school from Sacred Heart Academy in Cullman, Alabama, Shorter College in Rome, Georgia and The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. She married James Rodney Blanton from Canton, Georgia in 1971. They met in medical school and practiced family medicine together for many years, including starting and running Rockbridge Family Medicine in Stone Mountain, Georgia. In 2010 they sold their practice and moved to New Mexico to be close to their grandchildren. Libby and Rodney were married for over 46 years.

Libby was loved by many people and will always be remembered for her accomplishments and for handling the challenges of this life with grace, strength and spirit.

A public viewing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Funeral Rite will follow Monday, October 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87109. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Libby’s life. Libby’s ashes will be interred at a later date at Saint Mary’s Memorial Garden in Rome, Georgia.
