Dr. Edward Stiesmeyer, 97, beloved father, passed away peacefully in the arms of his family on June 19, 2017. He entered this world on September 24, 1919 in Linn, MO, born to Bruce Anton and Emilie Mertens Stiesmeyer. He is survived by his daughter, Johanna Stiesmeyer. His beloved wife, Kathryn; sisters, Mary Belle and Geneva; and brothers, Walter, Irvin, and William preceded him in death.
Edward graduated from St. Louis University School of Dentistry in 1944. He served in the United States Army Corp until 1967. During Edward's service he received his Oral Surgery degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956 and was awarded Fellowship in 1963. His distinguished career spanned World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. During Edward's service he provided care to military and civilian patients in addition to leading the education of the next generation of military oral surgeons. He received numerous awards of distinction during his military career. Edward served on the Department of Defense Military Support Operations for Project Mercury space mission and as part of his duties while stationed at Walter Reed Army Hospital, he participated in the Presidential and Congressional Support Operations Oral Surgery Team.
Upon retirement from the Army, Edward established his oral surgery practice in Sunnyvale, CA serving the community for over 20 years. He was known for his innovative, cutting edge oral surgery practice, his focus to provide state-of-the-art oral surgery care to his community, and outreach to those who could not afford care. His kindness and generosity were much appreciated.
Edward loved to hike in California and New Mexico with his daughter and the family dogs. He supported animal rescue groups and was a devoted San Francisco Giants fan.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 with a visitation at FRENCH – Wyoming beginning at 10:30 a.m. followed by a military ceremony at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 pm.
