Dr. Daniel H. Rupp, beloved missionary, preacher, author, father, and servant of God, passed away peacefully in the presence of family and friends on Friday, July 7, 2023, at the age of 78. He was born on Wednesday, November 1, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Daniel and Elizabeth Ann Hills Rupp. Daniel married Linda Dianne Boyd on Sunday, September 5, 1965, with whom he spent 57 wonderful years before being called home to Heaven. He graduated from Wayland University of Plainview Texas, with a Bachelor of Arts, and later earned his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and his Doctor of Ministry from Golden Gate Seminary in Mill Valley, California.
Dr. Rupp was a dedicated man who loved others and devoted his life to serving God and spreading the gospel around the neighborhood and around the world. He pastored churches in Texas and Florida before leading his family in missionary service in Costa Rica, Central America and Colombia, South America for 12 years with the Foreign Mission Board (now International Mission Board). After leaving the foreign mission field, he and Linda served many years as North American missionaries, 13 years as Director of Missions for the Santa Fe Baptist Association and later as Church Planting Strategist for the Southern Baptist Convention of New Mexico for 10 years. Daniel's faith was an integral part of his life; he enjoyed writing and published Missionary Ventures: Watch God Work!, which chronicles his experiences and insights from his ministry and travels. He worshipped at Cottonwood Church and later Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque, NM, serving in various capacities within the church and with his Sunday school class. In addition to his work, Daniel had various hobbies that brought him joy. He enjoyed packing Operation Christmas Child boxes, playing Words with Friends, serving on the Hoffmantown Missions Council, writing, reading, and visiting his children and grandchildren. These activities allowed him to engage with others and share his servanthood to God and others.
Dr. Rupp was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his sisters Elizabeth Rupp Cox and Esther Rupp Chavers, and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Rupp; his sisters Anita (Tom) Sutton and Martha Swanson-Burke; his children, Karl, Paul, and Stephen Rupp; his grandchildren, Gabriela, Veronica, Leah, Lily, Lexi, and Daniel.
Dr. Rupp will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. His sense of humor was beloved by many. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, service, and dedication for God's glory, and was a man of compassion who touched many lives with his kindness, generosity, and loving nature.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Daniel's life will be held on Friday July 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque. Flowers can be delivered directly to Hoffmantown Church or donations may be made to the International Mission Board (checks made out to Hoffmantown with a memo line of "IMB - in memory of Daniel Rupp") or to Hoffmantown Church.
