Dr. Amy G. Hernandez, Ph.D.

“Amy” Amada Genoveva Hernandez (Romero), 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 70 years, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021. She was born in Truchas, NM on September 22, 1935, moved to Albuquerque to attend Menual High School. Amy went on to receive a BS in Education, a Master in Educational Administration, and finally a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Multi-Cultural Teacher and Childhood Education, all at UNM. She was a devoted bilingual educator, working as a teacher and a principal at APS, and later as an educational consultant for UNM and the College of Santa Fe, and served as, Educational Leadership Fellow: University of Delaware.

She was deeply loved by her family. Amy had a wonderful positive attitude, a great sense of humor, and was a delight to know. She will be truly missed.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Anastacio and Floripa Romero (Trujillo), sister, Elizada Klassen, brother Ausencio Romero, her son Daniel, grandson Jeffery. She is survived by her sons: Stanley, wife Linda, David, wife Renee, Steven, wife Cindy, and Daughter: Julia Wesselman, husband Ken.  Grandchildren: Calven, Cori, Russell, Katie, Dana, Tim, Chris, Jerry, and Jennifer. She has 19 great-grandchildren plus 3 more to be born this year.

Amy will be interred at Sunset Memorial Park. The family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff of “Carefree Living” and to “Hospice of New Mexico” where Mom was greatly loved and cared for. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Menaul High School.
