Dorsey Edward Bishop

August 31, 1936 — March 11, 2021

Dorsey Edward "Ed" Bishop, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on Thursday, March 11th, 2021.

Ed was born in Elizabethtown, PA in their family home. At the time of his birth, it came as a shock to everyone that there was one more baby on the way. The Bishop's had a name picked out for his older twin, David, but had no clue what they were going to name Ed, so they decided to name him after the doctor who delivered them. The doctor's name was none other than, Dr. Dorsey Butterball, so the long standing joke was always, "you're lucky they didn't name you Butterball." He loved being a twin and telling anyone who would listen about their adventures and pranks. It was his claim to fame and infamy.

After serving four years and as a veteran of the United States Air Force, he took his bride Irene to Chicago where he graduated with his Associate in Applied Science in Electronic Technology from DeVry Technical Institute. Upon graduation, Ed earned a position with Sandia Laboratories which brought him and Irene to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they began to build a life and start a family of their own. After 38 years, Ed retired from the Labs and continued living a life of love and luxury in Albuquerque for a total of 60 years. Ed's farewell to his fellow colleagues:

"Ladies, Gentlemen, Co-workers, and Others,

This is it. The "heck" with 40, 38 is enough....... My condolences to those who must continue without me."

During Ed's time at Morning Star Assisted Living and Memory Care he quickly stole the hearts of everyone there. He was always able to elicit a laugh or an eye roll out of the caregivers, nurses and staff who came in contact with him, especially Eloy and Faith.

Ed was loving, dedicated, goofy, and full of life. His sense of humor would always catch you off guard. He was always quick to joke and even faster to laugh. He was the dad that in the evenings would always be out in the street with all the neighborhood kids either chasing, playing tag, or holding a baseball game.
He loved riding his bike to and from work; bowling, golfing, listening to classical music, playing softball and tinkering with electronics. He built a television set - circuit boards and all through a mail in kit. Ed also loved watching golf, and the family would give him a hard time saying, "he was watching grass grow." He attended Mesa View United Methodist church for 20 years and sang in the church choir with his beautiful tenor voice. He loved supporting his children in sports and other events and even coached little league for a while. When the grandchildren arrived, he took on the role of grandfather with gusto.

Irene always appreciated how strong, steady, and dependable Ed was; he always had and will forever have her love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Bishop and Mary Rapp Bishop; brothers, Jay Warren Bishop, James Bishop, Harry Bishop; and his sister, Betty Rodman. Ed is survived by his wife Irene of 62 years; their children, Daniel Bishop and his wife, Rebecca of CA, Julia Bishop of AZ, Jennifer Bishop of NM, David Bishop and his wife, Amy of NM; his twin brother, David Bishop of PA; and sister, Shirley of NM; along with 7 grandchildren, Mark Bishop, Eric Bishop, Cameron Bishop, Frank Miera, Dane' Chang, Sarah Sanchez and Darby Bishop; and 7 great grandchildren, Jessica, Ashton, Ryan, Khloe, Esmee', Evelyn and Emmitt (all Bishops).
