Dorothy "Dot" M. Atkeisson

d. October 7, 2018

Dorothy "Dot" Marie Atkeisson, age 88, went to be with the Lord on October 7, 2018. She was born August 1, 1930 in Corpus Christi, TX, the second to the youngest of five children to Harold and Hilda Thompson. She was raised and worked on the family farm where they grew cotton and vegetables, and where they raised cattle. Dorothy met the love of her life, Orvis "Slim" Leon Atkeisson while working in a movie theater. They married in Texas in 1947 and had two children, Gwen and "Bubba". When the children were young, they left Texas and moved to California to work and raise their family.

While in California, Dot went to school and became a beautician, but she also dabbled in Real Estate. After the children were grown and left home, Slim and Dot moved to South Dakota before moving and settling in Albuquerque. In the early 1980's, Dot found her passion when she and Slim bought the Antique Co-Op on 4th Street in Albuquerque.

After the death of Slim in 1987, the Antique Co-Op became Dot's whole world. She lived and breathed the shop, becoming a very savvy and independent business woman until health reasons made it difficult for her to be there everyday.

Dot is preceded in death by her parents, Harold (Floyd) and Hilda Thompson; husband, Orvis "Slim" Atkeisson; daughter, Gwen Aguilera; sister, Loreen Beckman; and brother, Joe Thompson. She is survived by her son, Orvis "Bubba" Atkeisson and wife, Cheryl of Albuquerque; sisters, Louise Blair and Ruthie Canville, both of Texas; grandchildren from California, Christi and Robert Flores, and Susan Moore; grandchildren from Texas, Steven and Elizabeth Mullaney; granddaughter from Florida, Tara Sloan; and grandchildren from Albuquerque, Adam Atkeisson and Leanne Milliken; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and of course, her entire Antique Co-Op family.

The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Ridgeview Assisted Living and Silver Linings Hospice Care for the love and care they gave to MOM while she was in their care. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation to the Dementia Society of America or to the American Parkinson Disease Society.

A viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at FRENCH - LOMAS. She will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery, alongside her husband, "Slim". A Celebration of Dot's Life will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Antique Co-Op at 7601 4th St. Please come and tell us your stories, eat, and celebrate the life of a great lady.
