VIGIL, DOROTHY KATHLEENShe passed away October 9, 2012. She was a rare native of Albuquerque, born December 20, 1925. She attended the Fourth Ward and Lew Wallace, Washington Junior High and graduated from Albuquerque High in 1945. She attended UNM while being employed as a secretary in Dean Nanningas's office. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences from Hardin-Simmons University in Abeline, Texas. She then went on to receive her Master's Decree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1957. Dorothy began her teaching career in West Texas schools before returning to Albuquerque to care for an ailing parent. She taught Social Studies at Garfield, Taft and Harrison Junior High. After retiring from APS she joined her husband on the family ranch in Southwestern Colorado, where she lived for 20 years before returning to Albuquerque for a second retirement. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ethel Elam and her oldest brother, George, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; two brothers, James from Cedro-Wooley Washington and Jerry of Albuquerque. There are many nieces and nephews who dearly loved and will miss her. Donations can be made in the memory of Dorothy to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. A Visitation will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at French - Lomas Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. also at French - Lomas Chapel. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nancy Jones, Claudia Sanchez, Barbara Sammons, Clarice (Cookie) Seale, Annette Sanchez and Lorraine Pereia.
