Dorothy Irene Trapp

November 29, 1923 — August 12, 2022

Dorothy Irene Trapp went home to the Lord on Friday, August 12, 2022. She was born in November of 1923 to Verna and Walter Bates in Big Springs, Texas. In 1926 the family traveled by covered wagon from Big Springs to Southwest New Mexico, settling in the Claunch area (present day Socorro County). Her parents acquired a homestead where they lived during the Great Depression and World War II before eventually moving to the Hatch Valley, New Mexico sometime in the 1950's. Jo, as her brother Elbert would call her, learned to be resilient during the Depression and she remained frugal her entire life. Always one to save everything, she could make a meal from a glass of milk! She was the best cook and the family raved over her roast beef and cornbread. Her pie crusts were amazing and luckily, she shared the secret with some of the family!

Dorothy was an avid game show enthusiast with her favorite show being Jeopardy, but she would surprise you by knowing most of the answers. She worked hard all her life raising a family and held jobs at the commissary and Piggly Wiggly. When she had time for herself, she enjoyed music, reading westerns or mysteries, gardening flowers, and she did ceramics for a time. To say Dorothy was outgoing would be an understatement, and that art came in handy as a pastor's wife since she could talk to anyone about anything. She was active in church for many years and taught Sunday school. She also learned to play guitar so she could sing and play during the service. Dorothy was a spunky, fun, and loving person who always had a smile for anyone she met.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her children, Sandra (Dennis), Timothy (Christine) and Laurie; grandchildren, Tony, Teresa, Diana, Kimberly (David), Stephanie (Jay), Geoffrey, and Cameron; and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathan, Zachary, Benjamin, Carly, Victoria, and Jonathan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Elbert; sisters, Rachael, Viola, Lois, and Bernice; three husbands, Wilbur, Edwin, and Hubert; and daughter, Phyllis.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Friday, August 26, 2022, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at FRENCH- Lomas.
