Dorothy Yontz Street

January 6, 1932 — December 26, 2021

Dorothy Y. Street passed away at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, early in the morning of December 26, 2021. She died peacefully after living independently in her own home for over sixty years. Dorothy was born in Albuquerque on January 6, 1932. She moved to Santa Fe with her parents at the age of 6 months. Many long-time friends have known her as Dorothy Black and Dorothy Yontz. Dorothy graduated from Santa Fe High School and attended what was at that time the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Dorothy is survived by her son, Steven; her daughter-in-law, Julia; three grandsons, Teddy, Gordon, and John; her sister Jean Kempenich; a niece Janice and nephew Robert Kempenich, and five grandchildren in Anchorage and Toksook Bay, Alaska, as well as many adoptive relatives. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Street, her biological parents, her adoptive parents, and an adopted sister, Eleanore Black Turner.

Dorothy was the last living charter member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque and the first ordained woman elder. She volunteered for many years in several community organizations and was a community blood donor of over twenty-five gallons at Southwest Blood Services. She was also an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood (a philanthropic, educational organization for women). Since 1970, she had been affiliated with the National Association of Parliamentarians, New Mexico State Association of Parliamentarians, and the Albuquerque Parliamentarian Unit. Dorothy was employed as a secretary and later as a budget analyst with the US Forest Service until her retirement in 1994.

Please consider contributing to a social or philanthropic organization on behalf of Dorothy to continue her long history of public service.
