Dorothy Avis Smith, lovingly known as Dot, was born on November 11, 1927 in San Diego, CA to Ben and Leone Worden. She passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 in Albuquerque from a heart attack. She was 89 years old.
Dorothy married Jim Smith on December 1, 1951 in the Episcopal Church on the San Diego State campus. Dorothy attended San Diego State College while Jim served in the Navy aboard various submarines for ten years. They were married for 65 years.
Dorothy is survived by the following family members: husband, James Smith; and children, James Smith Jr. (Dayton, OH), Joe Smith and wife, Brenda (Phoenix, AZ), and Nancy Smith Mortensen (Albuquerque, NM). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Shelley Smith, Bryan Smith, Aaron Smith, Rachel Smith Doss and husband, Kitt Doss, Jake Mortensen and Savannah Mortensen Banas and husband, Chris Banas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and E. Leone Worden; sister, El Dora Cole; brother-in-law, Rodney Cole; and son-in-law, Jeff Mortensen.
Dorothy and James Smith owned and operated J. Smith & Associates (electronic distribution sales company and value added engineering services) for 40 years. Dot and Jim were long time members of Faith Lutheran Church in Albuquerque.

The life of Dorothy Avis Smith will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd. NE, 87111. Family will be receiving visitors at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran. Memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Bruce Wilder officiating. We invite all friends of Dot and Jim to attend the reception in the church hall immediately following the service.
Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, the same day at 2:15 p.m.
