Dorothy Douchey Slimp, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2018 at the age of 96.
She was born on January 6, 1922 in Omaha, Nebraska to Samuel and Mary Douchey. She is preceded in death by husband, Robert J. Slimp; son, William Slimp; and granddaughters, Shena Devinney and Catherine McNeese.
Moving from Omaha in 1965, Dorothy was a homemaker and active longtime member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish. She was involved in the Women’s Guild and active in the school PTA. A lifelong learner, she continued to explore her faith, attended retreats, Bible study classes and was a regular at Wednesday night Adult Faith Formation until the age of 95. She was a passionate advocate and volunteer with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Her hobbies included oil painting, participating in several bridge clubs, talking politics and current events. Traveling the US, she collected many meaningful treasures that are on display throughout her home.
Dorothy is survived by Jim Slimp (Marylinn), Mark Slimp (Toni), Joni Bakken (Bob), Leslie Monette, (Lewis), Sam Slimp (Patty), 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She had a clever wit, one of her favorite mottos was “If you enjoy something – do it!”
Rosary will be recited Monday, October 15, 2018, 7:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, 2621 Vermont St. NE, with Msgr. Bennett J. Voorhies presiding.
