Dorothy (Faber) Carlson

d. May 10, 2019

Dorothy Carlson, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 10, 2019; she was 94 years old. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, A. Victor Carlson, parents, George A. Faber and Alma (Stripe) Faber, her 5-year-old sister, Alma, sister Gladys Moseley and brother George W. Faber. She is survived by her son, Alan, nephews, Robert, Jerry, and Curtis Moseley and cousins, Eleanor Johnston and Robert Stripe, all of Albuquerque. Also surviving her are nephews, Lee Moseley of Denver, Donald Faber of St. Augustine, FL, cousins, Darlene Garner and Nancy McCready, both of CA, and Victor’s nieces and nephew, Janet Stephenson, Hal Van Da Griff (both of MO) and Kay Harrington of MA.

Her father was born in Albuquerque in 1884. Dorothy was born November 15, 1924, in Richmond, CA, where her mother was visiting family. She was a 1943 graduate of Albuquerque High School and recalled eating at the Red Ball Cafe on south fourth Street with friends before catching the midnight movie at the Kimo Theatre. She met Victor in 1948, while working at the McMurtry Company on west Central. They were married in her parents’ home at 714 Summer Avenue NW. on April 2, 1949. Dorothy had a kidney removed in 1950, shortly after Alan was born. She later worked as a secretary at E. E. Steidley Insurance, where her husband was part owner, until his death in 1978.

She enjoyed working in the yard of the Dale Bellamah home they bought in 1953 and decorating the den, which was added in 1960. Family outings to Seven Springs Trout Farm, Little Beaver Town and Albuquerque Sports Car Club events provided lasting memories, as did backyard barbecues and holiday meals with her parents. Her life without Vic was supplemented by her son, Alan, by trips to Patty’s Corner in Belen, antique shops and thrift stores, visits with relatives, Rich Ford Christmas parties and raising numerous cats. They enjoyed many meals at JB’s on Eubank and Red Lobster on Montgomery.

Alan Carlson wishes to acknowledge her favorite doctors, Dr. Jameson, Dr, Shadoff and Dr. Rymer; also the staff at Casa San Pablo and the Presbyterian Home Healthcare nurses, who guided her to the end of her journey. Thank you.

Visitation will be Monday, May 20, from 5-7 pm at French’s Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. N.E. Her service will be held Tuesday, May 21 at 10 am in the chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. N.E. Kristi Koppel, Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church will officiate; internment will follow. Pallbearers are Alan Carlson, Robert, Jerry and Curtis Moseley, Jakob Carey and Bill Vinsant.
