Doris Jameson Lacy, age 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949 passed away Tuesday February 11, 2014. Doris was born in Logan, Nebraska in 1919, and raised on a farm in her early years, the daughter of Ruby Jameson and William Jameson. In 1924 her father moved his family to Tucson, Arizona to work in the rental car business. Her mother became a waitress at the Pioneer Hotel, and remained so until retirement. Doris was a spirited and big-hearted young girl who loved family and made friends easily. She adored her older brother Don, and worked around the house to help her Grandma Jameson. After high school, while working at the Fox Theater in downtown Tucson, she met Ernie Lacy who was then a deliveryman. They fell in love and married in 1939. Their daughter Carol was born in 1941. During the war, Doris and Ernie's mother Ruby made their home in Tucson with Ernie's sister Ida Dell Witt, while their young husbands Ernie and Harry were stationed in the Pacific and the Far East. After the war, Ernie moved his family to El Paso, Texas, to manage a moving company. In 1949 he moved to New Mexico to start his own business, Albuquerque Moving and Storage. Their two boys, Doug and Don, were born in 1950 and 1952. Doris was ever a loving mother and wife. She enthusiastically encouraged her children in all their many interests, including animals, reptiles, reading, sports, and music. She was a devout Christian and member of the Eastern Hills Baptist Church. She loved a good story, and her laughter always filled the room. In her retirement years she volunteered many hours visiting and attending to the old and infirm, as well as pursued a lifelong enjoyment and talent in sewing. Her husband Ernie, who received her loving care through two strokes and a heart attack, preceded her in death in 1989. Doris is survived by her daughter Carol Hale of Narrows, Virginia; sons Doug Lacy of Atlanta, Georgia, and Don Lacy of Eagle River, Alaska; grandchildren Jeffrey Reynolds of Huntsville, Tennessee, Sheri Henderson of Albuquerque, Paul Hale of Narrows, Virginia, Beth Swain of Catawba, Virginia, Hannah Murray of Albuquerque, Rachel Carlson of Albuquerque, Don Lacy Jr. of Eagle River, Alaska, Kyle Lacy of New York City, and Kip Lacy of Athens, GA; and finally her flock of great grandchildren. She is very much missed and will be fondly remembered. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the missions fund at Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Albuquerque.
