Doris Bradeson Alrick, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away on November 23, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on October 9, 1941, in Washington, DC, Doris' legacy is one of unwavering love, creative passion, and boundless generosity.
Doris leaves behind her beloved husband of over 60 years, Richard "Dick" Alrick. Together, they built a beautiful life and family. She also leaves behind four children: Douglas (Liza), Kristin (Kim), Anne, and Mark (Julia), as well as three cherished grandsons: Edward, Ronin, and Henry. Doris was the best grandma: creating cherished memories and bragging about her grandsons to anyone who would listen.
A passionate quilter, knitter, and seamstress, Doris was deeply involved in the quilting community. She was a member of both the New Mexico Quilters' Association and the Albuquerque Modern Quilt Guild. Doris' handmade quilts carry love in every carefully chosen fabric and thoughtfully placed stitch, wrapping those who receive them in the equivalent of a warm, lasting hug.
Doris' generosity knew no bounds. She was a member of P.E.O. International, an organization passionate about supporting and motivating women. Doris was also a member of Kiwanis, serving the needs of children. Doris and Dick opened their hearts and home to dozens of foster children, providing a loving and nurturing environment for each child who came into their care whether it was a few days or months.
Her love for travel took her to Europe multiple times and on three memorable trips to Japan. She traveled in the States and also visited Colorado many times a year to visit family. Wherever she went, Doris spread joy and warmth.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2025. Details will be shared in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Mexico Donor Services.
Please consider becoming an organ and tissue donor. Two selfless donors allowed us to create countless memories with Doris we otherwise wouldn't have had. We are forever grateful.
