Donald E. Reynolds was born in Munday, Texas on July 20, 1931, and passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 29, 2022. Don was preceded in death by his son, Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Martha and son, William.
Don attended the University of North Texas and Tulane University, eventually earning his Ph.D. He served as a college professor and always took pride in being a scholar. Don was recognized as a Professor Emeritus and received the Distinguished Faculty Award in his time teaching. He received special recognition from Texas A&M University Commerce.
He wrote several books, including Editors Make War , Professor Mayo's College: A History of East Texas State University , Texas Terror: The Slave Insurrection Panic of 1860 and The Secession of the Lower South . Don was awarded the Texas Writers Roundup Award in 1971, as well as the Bates Award for "Distinguished Research in Texas History," from the Texas State Historical Association.
Don wished to be remembered as a conscientious scholar and teacher, a faithful Christian, and a loving husband and father. He described the highlights of his life as surviving adolescence, maturing in the U.S. Navy, marrying a perfect wife, and fathering two great sons, getting his Ph.D., and publishing his first book.
Don will be dearly missed.
