Age 74, a resident of Albuquerque and Elephant Butte, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013. He is survived by wife of 56 years, Shirley (Bemis) Nielson; daughter, Nisa and husband Thomas Brown; daughter, Valerie and husband Albert Disch; son, Donald Scott and wife Pam Nielson; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Kayla and Tyler Brown, Kylie, Kaitlyn and Jordyn Disch, Elicia and husband Garrett Holt, Morgan and Paige Nielson; sisters, Betty Ann Collins and Stella Curley all of Albuquerque. Don was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Vanessa L. Nielson and parents, Raymond and Mary Agnes Nielson. For the past 40 years Don and Shirley have enjoyed spending time at Elephant Butte with their children and grandchildren and touring the countryside in their RV. He loved flying his remote control airplanes at the crack of dawn with his friends at Elephant Butte. His greatest joy of growing old was watching his grandchildren grow. He always said that his grandchildren excelled in sports and school because they had his genes. He was a very successful local business owner and retired after 45 years at Boyd Engineering Supply Co. Pallbearers will be Scott Nielson, Albert Disch, Tom Brown, Tyler Brown, and Garrett Holt; Honorary Pallbearers are Bill Bemis, Alan Tow, Ken Howard, Tom Curley and Bobby Beall. Services will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas with Pastor John Torrison officiating. Entombment will take place at Chester T. French Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
