Donald K. Honeyfield, 94, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 20, 2021. He was born July 28, 1926 to Harry and Hilda (nee Kurtz) Honeyfield in Raton, NM. Donald met his wife, Corene Eagan at a church picnic in Santa Fe, NM. They were married on May 23, 1947 in a marriage lasting 74 years. In 1956 they moved to the farm in Peralta, NM.
Donald is survived by his five children, Dale (Carolyn), Dan (Linda) and Vernon (Wendy) Honeyfield all of Peralta, NM, Carol (John) Grassham of Albuquerque, NM, and Dean (Glenna) Honeyfield of Blairstown, MO; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his wife on January 10, 2021. He was also preceded by his brother, Harry Honeyfield and sister, Lois Cran.
After a productive career as a dairy farmer, Donald worked as a rural mail carrier until he retired. In addition, he was a successful businessman dealing in land contracts. Trout fishing on the upper Pecos River was his earthly heaven. Donald and Corene were founding members of Peralta Memorial Methodist Church where he maintained an active leadership role. He was a cornerstone of his family, the church and community. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater. Donald loved to listen to country and gospel music, square dance, and he competed in bowling league tournaments.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at the Peralta Memorial Methodist Church, 25 Wesley Rd., Peralta, NM. Interment will be in the family plot at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Peralta Methodist church food pantry, the church, or a charity of your choice.
