Guarienti, Donald
Donald August "Don" Guarienti, 76, passed away peacefully January 27, 2016, surrounded by his immediate family. He was born to Albert Joseph and Mary Frances Guarienti in a dirt-floored adobe shack in the tiny coal mining village of Segundo, Colorado. Don is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Nellie Marie Guarienti; his son, Donald Allen Guarienti; his daughter, Debra Ann Chase; and his brothers, Ronald "Snozz" Guarienti and wife, Janet, and William "Billy" Guarienti and wife, Claudia; and many other family and friends.
Don was best known for his reverence for nature, passion for fly-fishing and hunting, incredible carpentry skills, immense compassion and wickedly wry sense of humor. He was a gentle, humble and proud man of very few words, great intelligence and perception, enormous generosity and profound kindness.
After graduating with 55 others as the 1957 Senior Class President of Primero High School, Mr. Guarienti enlisted in the United States Air Force and served our nation in the Vietnam War. Upon returning to the states, Don worked as a journeyman electrician on projects throughout New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. He was a proud and active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 56 years. After retiring, Don would most likely be found in his "uniform" of Wrangler jeans, long-sleeved shirt, boots and ever-present baseball cap, working away in his meticulously kept "shop". He lovingly crafted a myriad of exquisite wooden items from small, intricate crosses to large pieces of furniture. His self-taught talents as a wood worker were truly beyond comparison. Mr. Guarienti reveled in spending time with family, telling stories about his childhood adventures "up the river" in the southern Colorado Rockies, or watching "anything" sports, especially the Denver Broncos. Only a few days gone, one of the sweetest souls on the planet is already greatly missed.
