Don passed away on December 30, 2020.
He was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on December 4, 1931 to Apolonio “Apples” Duran and Lena Hewitt Duran. He graduated from Las Vegas High School; spent four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War; and graduated from New Mexico Highlands University. He went to Washington D.C. and joined the U.S. Capitol Police Force (Capitol Building Detail) for two plus years; became a member of the Staff of Senator Dennis Chavez of New Mexico for two plus years. Upon the Senators death, he returned to Albuquerque and worked at Sandia Laboratories, He retired after thirty plus years as a member of the Laboratories staff (MLS). Don was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd NE.
He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas “Doug” Duran. He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Gommesen and husband Mark and their children Jennifer and Bradley. He is also survived by his grandsons, Jake and Donovan Duran and Jakes wife Cassily and their son, his great-grandson Cameron. He is also survived by numerous siblings and their families.
In lieu of flowers, condolence donations may be made to a favorite charity.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, May 28, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Ennichment will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
