Dolores (Dea) Papp
8/29/28 – 9/26/18
Beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, who just turned 90 years young. Dea was born near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she lived most of her life. In 2007, she moved to Albuquerque with her husband to make her home with her daughter. Dea fought a courageous battle against ovarian cancer but, ultimately, it took her life.
She left this world to join her son, David; mother, Anna; father, John; sisters, Cookie and Patsy; and brother, Eddie in heaven. Many thanks to her wonderful caretakers, UNM Cancer center, Carolyn Muller, MD, and DeeDee (PA), Dr Chiu & Laura (Eye Associates), and Dr. Porter (retired Presbyterian Pulmonology).
Dea lived life to the fullest enjoying happy hour on the patio, lunch with her friends, family, animals (favorites, Newtonia and Missy), watercolor painting, gardening, flower arranging, golfing, crosswords, going to the casino, cooking and baking, taking care of her family, The Pittsburgh Steelers, and reading on her Kindle. Dea was so interested in learning that she mastered Google searches on the Internet for “The Chew recipes”, Dr Oz episodes, and QVC shopping while being in her late 80’s. If you ever met Dea, a great conversationalist, she would know all about your life within the first 5 minutes of meeting her.
She was married to the love of her life, Elmer (a WWII Navy veteran), in 1953 and enjoyed 65 joyous years of marriage. Dea is survived by her husband, Elmer; daughter, Carrie; granddaughter, Monica Neugebauer MD (fiancé Mat); baby brother, Jim (Manola); brother, Jack (Alice); sisters, Margaret & Bernie (Tom), and numerous nieces and nephews, and good friends, Dolores, Dolly, Marge, DeeDee (Justin) and Priscilla (Lonnie) and all the friends at Salon 47.
Please join a Celebration of her Life on Friday, October 12, 2018, 10:00 a.m. with a Catholic Mass at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m.
