Dixie Lea (Toney) Donham, 85, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was called to Heaven on Sunday, May 15, 2022.
Dixie was born on August 13, 1936, in Chautauqua County, Kansas, born to John and Pauline Toney.
During her childhood, Dixie moved to Woodsboro, Texas, with her Mother and Stepfather. She completed her education and graduated from Woodsboro High School in 1954. Upon graduation, Dixie moved to Coffeeville, Kansas, where she attended community college and successfully received her elementary teaching license. Dixie returned to Kansas and taught for one year in Gardner.
Dixie then moved to Espanola, New Mexico, with her mother and step-father where she met Dwane, who was working on a construction project with Dixie's Stepfather. Dixie and Dwane were married in Clovis, New Mexico, on March 4, 1960 and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on March 4, 2022.
Dwane began working for the airlines in 1961, which took Dixie to Arizona. Soon after, Dwane was drafted and he and Dixie moved to Oklahoma. Once Dwane was finished with his active-duty enlistment, he returned to the airlines and he and Dixie moved to Reno, Nevada. Dixie would spend the next 30 years calling Reno home. She was very dedicated to her family and provided a nurturing and loving home where she and Dwane would raise their two children.
Dixie was also dedicated to her church family, Temple Baptist Church, and enjoyed attending worship services and church functions regularly.
Dixie returned to work when her children began middle school. She worked with the Washoe County School District where she made lifelong friendships.
Dwane and Dixie returned to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1992, to be close to their aging parents. She continued serving the Lord as an active member of Highland Baptist Church. Dixie called Albuquerque home for the next 30 years until her passing.
She is survived by her husband, Dwane; her daughter, Janet (Dick); her son, Tommy (Michelle); five grandchildren, Hally, Joel Jr. (Nichole), Kaitlyn, Megan, Amie; three great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Joel III, James; and two nieces, Cassie, and Patricia (Manuel).
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pauline; and her brother, John.
