Dixie Lee (Ashley) Mally

August 29, 1937 — July 21, 2018

Dixie Lee (Ashley) Mally died peacefully in her Albuquerque, NM home on July 21, 2018. She was surrounded by loving family. Born in Oskaloosa, IA on August 29, 1937, Dixie grew up in Cedar Rapids, IA. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1955 and she married Michael Mally in Cedar Rapids on October 18, 1958. Together they moved more than 20 times and spent the most years in two cities – Superior, WI and Albuquerque, NM. Dixie worked most of her adult life, including time as a hospital admissions clerk at Superior Memorial Hospital in Superior, WI and at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. She also taught ceramics at Arrowhead Ceramic Arts in Superior. Her ceramics are still enjoyed in many homes today. She served on the Parent Teacher’s Association, as a leader in Brownies and Scouts, and other activities to support her children during their school years.

Dixie most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren becoming a fixture at as many of their softball, soccer, and aviation events as possible.  She loved watching her grandkids blossom into young adults.

Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Marguerite Ashley. She leaves behind her husband of nearly 60 years; a daughter, Deborah (William) Donnelly; a son, Stephen Mally; five grandchildren, Lauralee (Adrian) Archibeque, Mariah Donnelly, Mikayla Donnelly, Savannah Donnelly, and Matthew Donnelly; a sister, Carol McLees; an aunt, Marcetta Perry; cousins, Pamela Jackson, Ron Leinen, Marilynn Fisher, and Marsha Kerr; and her beloved dog, Daisy.
