Diego A. Benavidez, age 68, was born on November 12, 1953, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was a carpenter by trade and a carver by passion. One of his proud accomplishments was receiving his associates degree at the age of 52. Diego played guitar and loved New Mexico music. He was a long-standing member of Los Hermanos Crusados. On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, Diego passed on to glory as the result of kidney failure.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary, and Domingo Benavidez; brothers, Jose Doroteo, Natividad, Jerry, Clyde, Florentino, Rudy, Eddie; and sisters-in-law, Josephine, and Catrina.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline Benavidez, and previous wife, Celeste Benavidez; children, Paul Cordova, Jerome Benavidez, and Joleen Martinez (husband Melicendro); stepchildren, Emily Thomas (husband Matt) and Jeremiah Rounds (wife Lisa). He will also be deeply missed by his surviving brothers, Bobby Benavidez, and George Benavidez (wife Marie); grandchildren, Destinee, Dominique, Brandy, Mila, Elexis, Diego, Matthew, and Liliana; step grandchildren, Stasia, Caralynn, Taleah, Aurora, and Ophelia; great-grandchildren, Amara, Rayne, and Eleah, and many nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a eulogy and sharing at 9:45 a.m. Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., at Saint Anne's Catholic Church, 511 Alicia St., Santa Fe, New Mexico. Burial will follow at 11:45 a.m. There will be a time of gathering at Saint Anne's Hall in Santa Fe at 12:45 p.m.
