Diego Juan Anaya SR

December 20, 1948 — October 30, 2014

Age 65, a life-long resident of New Mexico, was called home by our Lord on Thursday, October 30, 2014 after fighting and overcoming many medical conditions, including cancer. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lupe Anaya; children, Josie Laing and husband, Robert, Monica Sundeen, Theresa Benavidez and husband, Christopher, Diego Anaya, Jr. and wife, Felicia; eight grandchildren, twins Jacob and Sabrina Sundeen, Robert Laing Jr., Ashley Laing, Alicia Benavidez, Christopher Benavidez, Jr., Diego Anaya III, and Santiago Anaya; 10 brothers and sisters; and numerous other relatives and friends. Diego was preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Chavez; and one brother and sister. He was born in 1948 in Santa Fe, NM and after high school entered the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served during the Vietnam Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Albuquerque where he worked for the City of Albuquerque as a truck driver. After his retirement he worked at Hope Christian Academy as a baseball coach. Diego was an avid outdoorsman, loving to fish and hunt. He was a loving, funny and extremely generous man who would do anything for anyone. Diego was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Rosary will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2014, 8:30 a.m., at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Parish, 8901 Candelaria Rd. NE, 87112 with a Mass following at 9:15 a.m. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Diego's name to St. Vincent de Paul, 4120 Menaul Blvd. NE, 87110.
