Diana Buxton, 74, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 18, 2024. Diana was born on Saturday, March 18, 1950, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, to Fred Buxton and Dorothy (Yeager) Buxton. While growing up Diana lived in Dallas, Texas and Hazelwood, Missouri. Albuquerque, New Mexico became her permanent home in October, 1969.
Diana graduated from high school in 1968. She immediately went to work at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis as a secretary. She moved to Albuquerque on October 1969 along with her mother, step-father, Don Thompson, and sisters, Alice and Sharon. Diana wanted to be with her family.
Diana found a career waiting for her in Albuquerque. She had taken office skills classes that were available in high schools during the 1960's, and bookkeeping was one of those classes. Diana started her bookkeeping career wit Kelly McCarthy and Caples, mostly working for Dan McCarthy. Dan McCarthy saw her potential. She was smart and learned quickly. She followed Dan through various other firms, ending up with one of Dan's partners, Peter Brunson, when Dan retired. After Peter retired, she had a brief stint at the Cottonwood Group, where he illness forced her to retire. Diana never wanted retire!!
Diana was an excellent bookkeeper. She was "old school" in all ways, particularly in the work ethic of getting the job done and doing it right. She started out in the pre-computer days and adapted to all technology common to bookkeeping today. She worked long hours during the "season" and quarter ends. She expanded to tax preparation for the businesses that she took care of. She was liked by most clients and had many clients she took care of for decades. She trained many other employees in the bookkeeping field. She was always well liked around the office by fellow emplyees and clients. If someone did not like Diana, you knew something was wrong with that other person!
Diana is survived by her sister, Alice Davis (Lyle), Sharon Wilson (David); step- brothers, Don Thompson (Francesca), Ron Thompson (Lucy); and step-sister, Tammie Edwards. She also has nieces and nephews who survive her.
Diana was all about family and friends, and she enjoyed having them in her home. She was an independent woman who always has time for other. She was kind, conscientious and hard- working. She had a cheerful outlook and laughed easily. Her fine sense of humor was one of many characteristics that made her a joy to be around. Our many happy memories of Diana live on in our hearts and minds. We miss her, and we were blessed to have known and loved her.
