Dezmond J. Ravenel

Dezmond J. Ravenel, 22, of Albuquerque, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 27, 2017. He was born on April 15, 1995 to Carisa and Anthony Ravenel.

Dezmond is a 2013 graduate of Eldorado High School. He was a star athlete, lettering in football and track, and was a proud member and Treasurer of DECA, Delta Epsilon Chi, and Distributive Education Clubs of America, which is an international association of high school and college students and teachers marketing management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and other business areas. He was also a proud member of Key Club, which is a student led organization whose goal is to encourage leadership through serving others.

He recently was attending the University of New Mexico to earn a Bachelor of Arts in International Business, with an interest in international studies focusing on Japan, which was what he had a passion for. It was a proud moment when Dezmond pledged for Pi Kappa Alpha and became a brother to many others. The fraternity strives to a higher standard of integrity and achievement. PIKE remains dedicated to developing men of integrity, intellect, success, and high moral character, and to fostering a truly lifelong fraternal experience.

Dezmond had a passion for so many things. He was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, an amazing football player with outstanding talent and athleticism, and was a leader both in YAFL and at Eldorado. He also was the cornerstone of the track team that went to State in 2013, he loved playing basketball with friends, hiking, and cycling to stay in shape when he wasn’t playing Xbox or doing homework.

Dezmond was an amazing son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew, and friend to many. He will always be loved and truly missed. He had a quiet, strong personality that was the backbone and emotional rock that supported so many people. He took on that responsibility with honor and a memorable smile that lit up a room. He had an amazing way of brightening anyone’s day, never allowing a person to feel down on themselves and always had a solution to every and any problem.

A Memorial Service will be on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., for close friends and family, at the University of New Mexico Ballroom A, located in the Student Union Building. A Community Vigil is scheduled for Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at a location to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Pi Kappa Alpha. The Fraternity will donate to a charity in honor of Dezmond’s legacy.
