Deyonna D. Young, 79, a beloved sister and daughter was called to her eternal resting place on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. She entered this world on July 3, 1944 in Charleston, SC, born to Dale and Lenore Young. She is survived by her sister, Cyndi Scherer; and friend and caregiver, Sandra Alderete.
Deyonna served in the Army (Vietnam War) from 1968 until she retired July 3, 2003. Deyonna also retired with the State of New Mexico as an Anti-Trust Attorney with the Attorney Generals Office here in Albuquerque. She was also a hot air balloon pilot. This was her favorite thing to do. She competed and won many events. Deyonna will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and witty sense of humor.
A Memorial Rosary will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024, 10:15 a.m., followed by Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW. Deyonna will be laid to rest with military honors at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
