Deward Yocum, 55, beloved son, husband, brother, and friend, was called to his Eternal resting place on Sunday, September 5, 2021. He entered this world on Tuesday, January 25, 1966 in Albuquerque, NM, born to John and Nora Yocum. He is survived by his wife, Angelia Yocum; brother, Daniel Yocum(Greta); mother, Nora Herrera; his mother and father-in-law, Rudy and Verna Garcia; his brothers and sisters-in-law; aunts and uncles; cousins; and nephews and nieces.
Deward was a whole hearted follower of Yeshua in accordance with the scriptural traditions of his ancestors.
Deward graduated Valley High School and was a State Champion Tennis player. His love for tennis continued as he taught tennis for the City of Albuquerque and coached the Bernalillo High School girl's tennis team.
He was self taught in all aspects of computers starting with computer animation which then evolved into computer graphics, web design, building networks and IT Support. He worked over 25 years in IT for Health Care Horizons, Bernalillo Public Schools and the State of New Mexico.
Deward passionately pursued many hobbies and interests including hiking, camping, target shooting, restoring old tools, flying drones and miniature helicopters. His greatest passion was fly fishing. He was a well known fly fisherman and recognized fly tier not only in New Mexico but throughout the country. He was a highly sought after fly fishing guide and spent countless days on the San Juan River with clients and friends alike.
Music was also a passion of Deward's. He taught himself to play guitar while he was a teenager and moved on to play in numerous rock bands with the most successful band being Fallout. They were well known on the Albuquerque music scene being selected for Best of New Mexico, New Mexico Home Grown, and then going on to record with Statue Records in California. When the band days were over, Deward continued to create and record his music and play guitar with friends up until his passing.
