Derek Monroe, age 71, beloved father, husband, and brother, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022. Derek will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and the love he held for all his family and friends. Derek was born and raised in Portland, Oregon where he was focused on school and college work until his country called upon him for service during the Vietnam War. Derek served in the US Air Force for four years, until the completion of his service in 1977 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. While attending Portland state university in pursuit of higher education, he met his future wife Linda, to whom he married in 1982. Derek entered the field of mechanical engineering and provided for his family for many years after, working out of Portland and Salem, Oregon, before eventually retiring in New Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Linda Monroe; and his son, Colin Monroe; He is also survived by his mother, Peggy; brother, Dana; and sister, Ny-Kee; He leaves many cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins from both sides of his family. A Private Memorial Service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Derek will be greatly missed by all the lives that he touched.
