Denzil (Don) Calvin Parker

December 3, 1929 — July 23, 2017

Denzil (Don) Calvin Parker, 87, beloved husband, father, and grandfather was called to his eternal resting place on July 23, 2017. He entered this world on December 3, 1929 in Turkey, Texas, born to Cecil and Plumber (Seymor) Parker.  Don was the second-born child of ten.  He was the eldest son.  He loved his mother tremendously and from an early age, he worked to contribute to the family finances.  Don enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and served four years.  He received an Honorable Discharge and then enlisted in the Army National Guard and Reserves.  He retired after 33 years of service.

Don spent the next years traveling, fishing, and enjoying (spoiling) his grandchildren.  Don was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather (Papa).  He took pleasure in the simple things in life; his family, good food, coffee, gardening, and puttering around the house.  Don was a talented repairman and taught his grandson, Matt, many important life skills, including the value of hard work and knowing how to take care of his home and family.   His granddaughter, Carissa, and Don were buddies.  "Papa" loved to spend time with his girl, and especially liked the chocolate chip cookies they would bake together.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Parker; daughter, Donna (Parker) Sauter and son-in-law, David Sauter; grandchildren, Mathias (Matt) and Carissa Sauter.  Don and Rosalie were together for 62 years and still held hands and kissed each other goodnight.  Don is also survived by eight of his nine siblings as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Don lived a humble life that was full of love and happiness. He will be forever remembered by his family.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Don's life will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria NE. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Asbury United Methodist Church in Don's name.
