Dennis Joseph Wilmot

August 13, 1949 — July 20, 2018

Dennis J. Wilmot, born August 13, 1949, was taken up to heaven in the arms of God last week. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis P. Wilmot and Jeanette E. (Chambers) Wilmot. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cynthia L. Wilmot, and loved by all his nieces and nephews.

Dennis was a loving, generous, and kind man, husband and uncle. Both he and his wife, Cynthia, loved Disney and were “Disnoids.” They met while Cindy was in x-ray school at BCMC/UNM where Dennis was pursuing his Masters Degree in Public Administration at the School of Robert O. Anderson UNM. He had already received his Bachelors of Science from the University of Kentucky – GO WILDCATS!

Dennis was born and raised in Hillside, Illinois. He went to St. Domentilla’s from 1st grade to 8th grade, then Proviso West from 9th grade to 12th grade. The street he lived on was Laverne, and had over 50 kids called the Laverne Gang. He played hockey growing up. He also played college football for U of K and played professional football for the Chicago Bears – DA BEARS! He played on the taxi squad and was called to dress up and play numerous games. He is a Bear fan, a Cub fan, a Bull fan, a Blackhawk fan, and has learned to like the Steelers.

Dennis was an x-ray technologist for over 50 years. His love was actual patient care and students. Over his years in x-ray, he was an R.T. and an Administrator of Departments of X-Ray in several hospitals in Florida and Illinois. He helped Florida and New Mexico with their State Licensure. He also worked for Philips selling x-ray equipment and Complete Rooms along the coastline of Florida. He sold complete Cath labs, Special Rooms and R & F Rooms down to Portables. He worked for the ARST, helped ASTRO, and helped set-up the competency programs for x-ray schools across the nation including New Mexico. He was the Director of the Continuing Education, but he went back to x-ray patient care and opened up his own continuing education to the State of NM. He did this to help lower costs and renting tapes and taking tests from the convenience of the x-ray techs at home. He then had to go out from working as a tech with a very debilitating back disease call DISH. His health continued to spiral downhill, but not his spirit.

Dennis and his wife of 43 years, Cindy, went to Disney and traveled with family and friends on Disney Cruises. Both of them were Disney Vacation Club Members from 1992 and on. Dennis still managed to tutor his x-ray students.

They could not have children, so their nieces and nephews were theirs. He will be missed by them and all of their pets – most in heaven and two on earth. He will also be missed by Lisa, and mostly by his wife, Cindy Lou.

And now Dennis is in heaven in peace with his mom and dad and Cindy’s mom and dad (his Disney hangout buddy), and all of his pets from childhood to today.

As his wife, I will always love him and miss him dearly and will be at peace knowing he is at peace, God rest his soul, until we meet again. Then look out… I’m gonna talk him silly!

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming, with a reception to follow.
