Dennis S. Adams, Lt. Col. (Ret.), age 89, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 62 ½ years, Lois Adams of Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his one son, Doug Adams. Dennis served his country proudly during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He received his commission after completion of the Aviation Cadet Pilot Training in 1944. During WWII, he served in the European Theater of Operations as a B-24 aircraft Commander, completing 28 combat missions with 198 hours from September 1944 to May 1945. During the Vietnam conflict he served as a C-135 and C-141 Aircraft Commander completing 59 combat missions with 100 combat hours. During his military service, Dennis received the following decorations and awards: Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal/ 3 oak clusters, Purple heart, Vietnam Service Medal/ 4 Bronze service stars, National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 bronze service star and the European-African-middle East Campaign Medal w/ 6 bronze service stars, along with many others. When Dennis retired from the Air Force on March 31, 1970, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Dennis was an avid sports fan, and loved to hunt and fish in the state of New Mexico. In February of 1950, Dennis graduated from Penn State University with his bachelor's degree. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with visitation one hour prior to services. Entombment will follow.
