My Grandma Del

Was born in 1922

No, she didn’t have a time machine

She lived THIS long…It’s true!

Born in Salt Lake City

To an Italian mom and dad

Peter and Mae DiSera

Did the best with what they had.

She was the oldest of 3 siblings,

Larry, Frank, and Anne.

Hard to believe she’d live the longest

That was not her plan.

She married Steven John

In Nineteen Forty Four

A Lieutenant in the Army

They met on a dance floor.

They had 5 beautiful daughters

Cheryl, Cathy, Janice, Colleen, and Teddi

Lots of handmade dresses and dolls

I’m sure girl giggles were plenty.

They moved to Albuquerque

1954 was the year

Raised their daughters, put down roots

Del never moved from here.

She worked for Social Security

And continued to dance and sew

She loved music, sketching, and gardening

She was always on the GO!

She cherished time with grandkids.

She doted on all 8!

Laughter, funny sayings

Time with her was GREAT!

She retired at the age of 70

But that didn’t slow her down

She kept on dancing, loved the theater

And flitted all over town.

She married Spencer Welch

October 2000 was the year

Yep, she met him dancing!

Five years together she held dear.

Del was proud of her Italian decent

Pasta and meatballs were her fave!

She was fashionable and energetic,

Stubborn, hilarious, and brave!

Her family continued to grow

And with that so did her love.

12 great-grandkids, and 1 great-great!

All precious gifts from above!

Although she didn’t like hot food

You could say she was quite spicy!

She liked to shop and find good deals

Giant butter tub…sure!  It wasn’t pricey!!

96 years is a very long life

And we are thankful for each one.

The laughter, the stories, the memories

We all loved her a ton!

God finally called her home

It was Sunday April seven

I’m fairly certain with high heels on,

She danced right into Heaven.

So if you hear some tapping

Coming from up above

It’s my Grandma doing the Cha Cha,

Sending all her love!
