Deborah DiSanti

January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970

Deborah DiSanti, 64, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home, in the presence of family on Monday, September 5, 2022. She is survived by her husband, David DiSanti; sisters, Dixie (John) Davidson and Patricia Aragon; plus, numerous multi-generational nieces and nephews, who she dearly loved. Mrs. DiSanti was preceded in death by her parents, William and Florence (Kline) Pope; and her brothers, John Pope ant Thomas Pope.

Deborah was born into a military family and was very proud of her father's career as an Army soldier. Deborah was a lifelong Christian and exhibited her faith through her deeds, including missionary work and Sunday School teaching during her formative years. Throughout her lifetime, Deborah volunteered for numerous humanitarian causes. Most recently, she volunteered to serve food to the under-privileged on Thursdays at a local church (Oct 2021-Jun 2022). Prior volunteer work included being a guide/helper at the Natural History Museum for the Leonardo Da Vinci and Warner Brothers exhibits. During 2009-2012, Deborah developed, funded, and implemented a program, which fed breakfast to 200+ under privileged citizens per week. Over the course of her work, 20,000+ citizens received needed breakfast nutrition at Noon Day Ministries.

Deborah was a 1975 Manzano High School graduate and attended TVI afterward. Many years later (circa 2003), Deborah received a Certificate from PIMA, when she changed careers from retail sales, where she had a very successful career in book sales. Deborah was an avid reader. Her PIMA education led to work in Hospice as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Deborah also volunteered with cat rescue organizations and ensured the safety of hundreds of cats through the years, as she fostered (or adopted), fed homeless cats, which she helped capture and released after sterilization. At more than one time, she had 17 cats in her care, which she did find homes.

Deborah loved to travel, especially by air: She had ridden in hot air balloons, helicopters, small planes and jets throughout the US, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. She also had visited many of the US' finest zoos, such as Atlanta, St. Louis, San Diego, and the Bronx Zoo. Her sea cruises to Mexico, Alaska, Canada, and Europe highlighted her love of travel and she documented her journeys with outstanding photography. Deborah often described her travel excursions in cities with David as adventures because they often spent much time getting from place-to-place. They were never lost in a strange city, but there were many adventures. Deborah worked as a pet-sitter for many years: Despite her love of cats, her favorite pet was her dog, Ayla, a Labrador-Rottweiler. For 15+ years, Ayla, who Deborah adored completely was an outstanding companion.

Seeing musicians and hearing live Music was a passion of Deborah's. She loved John Prine and his music. She recently noted, John Prine has a song for every experience in your life. Other favorites include Bonnie Raitt, The Eagles, Steve Earle, Joan Baez, plus Joe Bonamassa. For the past 11 years, Deborah enjoyed attending live. Local Albuquerque and Colorado events and listening to live local talent, such as The Atomic Fireballs, Odd Dog, The Incredible Woodpeckers, The Blunts, Stratus Phear and Vintage Brew. Solo acts, such as Hillary Smith, Chris Dracup, Mose McCormack, Doug Muchmore and Cowboy Scott were also must-see events. Some of Deborah's other favorite things include The Color Red. Tie-Dye, Double Rainbows. The Moon and Stars, Unicorns, and Art.

Deborah was an extremely intelligent, compassionate, empathetic, caring person. Deborah met her soul mate, David, in 1976 and they married in 1979. For the past 22 years, Deborah organized and spearheaded an annual Backyard Barbecue, which evolved into an annual Live Music Barbecue (ABBBQ).

A Celebration of Life To honor Deborah will be held Saturday, October 1, 1:00 p.m. To honor Deborah's request, this event will be a BBQ with Live Music. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Cancer Society are recommended.
