Dawn Calek

Margaret Dawn Mary (Armstrong) Calek was born on January 2, 1928 in Antigo, WI to James and Carolyn (Hulka) Armstrong and passed away July 21, 2024. Dawn was raised and educated in Wisconsin and the Chicago area. On December 1, 1951, she and Joe Calek were married and in 1952 they moved to Albuquerque, NM. At that time, she began her career as a secretary with Sandia National Laboratories. She stayed with Sandia until she retired in 1992 after 37 years. Dawn worked in many ministries at the Aquinas Newman Center-her favorites were those involving the University of New Mexico students, faith sharing with her peers, and floral decorations for Mass celebrations.

Dawn was an intelligent, caring person devoted to helping others but taking no credit for herself. Her favorite things were Joe, quiet times, uncrowded places, music, books, gardens, flowers, Santa Fe, and chocolate.

Cousins, their families, and dear friends survive her.

A private burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.
