David Reyes Roddy, age 39, was called to eternal rest on May 31, 2024. He was the beloved son of Sylvia and David Roddy, loving brother of Anthony Reyes Roddy (wife Marisa), and the proud and loving father of Damien and Aria Roddy. He attended Rio Rancho Public Schools, St Pius X High School, and Central New Mexico Community College.
As a youth growing up in Las Cruces, David excelled at baseball, playing year-round until the eighth grade. He hit such prolific home runs as a Little Leaguer that his Dad nicknamed him Bambino after Babe Ruth, and the shortened “Bambo” stuck with him for life. At St. Pius he played basketball and was a member of the Sartan football team that played for the State Championship in 2001. He was a generous and engaging young man and a loyal and protective friend and brother. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys and Boston Red Sox fan, but as he grew older that love was quickly surpassed by his love for family.
In Massachusetts he treasured family beach days, cookouts, and 4th of July gatherings with his 9 Roddy aunts and uncles, 15 cousins, and dozens of second cousins. In New Mexico, there were innumerable weddings, birthday parties, and holiday celebrations with 9 Reyes aunts and uncles, and 12 cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him. Heaven for David was spending time with his children, his niece Isabel, his nephews Lucas and Logan, his cousin Erika’s boys Tyler and Eli, or his beautiful Boxer, Logan, whom we are not sure if David named after his nephew. He was so proud that his son Damien inherited his baseball skills, and then some. He spent 15 years loudly rooting from grandstands all over New Mexico and the Southwest. David’s Facebook posts memorialized happy family occasions and he often shared inspirational quotes with his friends.
His generosity was boundless. He had special compassion for street people and the homeless and would happily and often part with his last dollar or his lunch when he saw someone in need. David loved Jesus, and he will be greatly missed by all those he loved and who loved him.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Luke and Clarissa Roddy, his abuelito, Jesus Reyes, his aunt Carol Roddy Donovan, and his aunt and godmother, Terry Reyes Madison.
