David Alan Miller, 80, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2016, surrounded by his wife and family members.
Dave was born January 8, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA to the late F. J. Christensen and Elizabeth Moline and was adopted by the late Leonard Miller. He grew up in Glendale, CA and, after graduating from high school, joined the Navy. Upon completion of his enlistment, Dave entered the Air Force. He received his bachelor's degree from San Diego State University and his master's degree from Golden Gate University.
Dave was a fighter pilot while serving in the Air Force, flying the fabled F-4 "Phantom." He flew numerous combat missions during the Vietnam War, and received multiple medals for his actions. The most notable of these medals was the Distinguished Flying Cross - America's oldest military aviation award for heroism and extraordinary achievement. Dave retired from the Air Force in 1979 at Holloman AFB, NM as a Lieutenant Colonel. Following Dave's retirement, he became the Public Works Director for the City of Alamogordo, where he remained until relocating to Albuquerque in 1989. He ultimately retired as a Certified Facilities Manager, working for DOE contractors.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Gilsdorf, and his sister, Kathy Miller. Dave is survived by his wife, Donna Miller; children Lori Bloomfield and husband Mike, Scott Miller and wife Kim, Barbara Bodine and husband Lance and Jim Miller; his brother, Dave Christensen; sister, Linda Christensen; grandchildren Lexa Lujan, Sarah Merrell and husband Steve, Courtney Price and husband Will, Matthew Was, Brian Bloomfield, Amanda Driver and husband Ben, Barron Miller and Seth Bodine.
Dave will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Rd. NE, Rio Rancho, NM. A reception will follow the Mass. Following the Mass and reception, interment will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
