David Holmes

On October 26th, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family, our father David H. Holmes at the age of 89 passed away peacefully and joined our mother Frances, his father Avery and mother Mary, his great-grandchild Jack James Riley as well as additional family and friends in Heaven. He will be deeply missed by his sister Diane Agha, his children Therese Wing (Jim), Karen Candelaria (Pat), Sue Goheen (Rich), Steve Holmes (Shassidy), Mark Holmes (Verna), Frannie Holmes, Shari Holmes (Todd), Jeannine DiLorenzo (Chris), Joe Holmes (Karen), Loretta Garrett (Brian), Matt Holmes (Monica) as well as his thirty grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his extended family and friends. David graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1951 where he was an all conference football player and state champion, he went on to play football at the University of Colorado where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and then served in the military where he was stationed in Germany with the US Army Corp of Engineers. After completing his service he moved back to Santa Fe to start his civil engineering career and soon after he met the love of his life, Frances, they wed in 1959 and were married for nearly 64 years. As our family grew our Dad worked tirelessly to provide for us, he sacrificed so much to ensure our family was well taken care of and that we not only survived but thrived!

Our Dad was very active in the community, he coached youth sports for many years and was also involved in the Catholic Church, where he served as an usher at Mass every Sunday, taught Catechism and was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He had a profound impact on many people's lives, his kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand made him a beloved and respected figure to many. His passion to live life to the fullest was equally matched with his passion to defend life. He believed in the sanctity of life and his passion to protect it evolved into a lifelong commitment.

Our Dad was an exceptional father, his devotion to our family was unwavering, he was a pillar of support offering guidance and encouragement to all of his children and later showering his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with his unconditional love and support. We will miss his witty jokes, our conversations and his loving heart and we thank him for all he has taught us, for always believing in us and for being the most selfless man we'll ever know. May we carry on his legacy of always putting family first, being kind and generous, never taking life for granted and always serving God. Dad, we will miss you & Mom every single day until we meet again.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 22nd and will begin with a Rosary at 10:00AM and Mass at 11:00AM at Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. We hope all those who knew him can join us in celebrating his life.
