David J. Grandia

David J Grandia- Commander, US Navy retired, passed away on February 20, 2016 at his home. David was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 12, 1948 to William and Catherine Grandia. William Grandia, his father was a career naval officer who moved his family to Albuquerque N.M. when he retired in 1958. David grew up in the north valley of Albuquerque. He was active in youth horse activities, rodeo, 4-H, and Boy Scouts. He graduated from Valley high school in 1965, NMMI in 1967 and from UNM ROTC in 1969.
David had a career as a naval officer serving on 4 submarines over his 21 years in the Navy. He was qualified to command submarines and earned a Master's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering while in the Navy. He retired in 1991 from the Navy and moved to the Seattle, Washington area. He continued to work with various government contracts in support of the Naval Submarine Force until retiring again, in 2011 in the Bremerton Washington area. He returned to Albuquerque in 2013.
David is survived by his wife, Linda Metcalfe; mother, Catherine Grandia; daughters, Nicki and husband Frank, and Anni and husband Mark; sons, Eric and Marc; sister, Rebecca and husband David Gibson; three nieces and two nephews; and sister in-law, Cheryl Grandia. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jacob Grandia; and father William Grandia.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at FRENCH - University. A private interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
