Dr. David Robert "Bobby" Smith, Jr., age 74, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to Heaven on April 27, 2014, to be with his Lord and Savior. Bobby had been a long time resident of Albuquerque. He was born in Houston, TX, attended the University of Texas, Texas A&M, and obtained his second Master's degree and Doctorate in Physics from Rice University. He worked as a physicist at Sandia National Laboratories, taught physics and electrical engineering at Texas A&M University, specialized in high power microwave energetic effects while a resident of Colorado Springs, and completed his career as a consultant to Sandia National Laboratories until his retirement. Bobby leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Bonnie; their two sons, Dr. David Robert Smith III and Stephen E. Smith; and his brother, Frank Furlow. Bobby was also a proud grandfather of two gorgeous granddaughters, Kate and Sarah Smith; and he maintained strong relationships with family and friends, who extend across the country. Bobby had many interests. He loved to play piano, guitar, accordion, violin and banjo. He was always fond of a variety of music genres. Beloved friends and family who knew Bobby remember him as a soft-spoken, intelligent, humble man who loved his family and enjoyed leading Bible studies; entertaining his grandchildren, hiking, fishing and playing golf.
