David C. Apple, age 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1943, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023. He was born in New Orleans, LA, on October 14, 1941.
David was a graduate of Highland High School and received a BS and MA from the University of New Mexico. A retired educator, he had taught for Albuquerque Public Schools at Yucca, Apache, and Hubert Humphrey Elementary Schools over a span of 32 years. Dedicated to teaching and creating a vibrant learning environment, he was well-liked and respected, inspiring and touching the lives of countless students.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce, who he met at Yucca Elementary, where she taught in the classroom next door. He is also survived by his daughter Jennifer and her husband Jeff Over of Geneseo, NY and his son Mark of Albuquerque.
In retirement he enjoyed traveling with Joyce to witness the beauty of natural landscapes from Arizona to Alberta, working around the house and yard, listening to jazz, and indulging his passion for model railroading. He was a humble man who lived a life of integrity.
David's family is grateful to the staff of Hospice De La Luz and Hilldale Assisted Living for the compassionate, loving, and attentive care he received in his final months.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2, at 2:30 PM at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona NE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation (www.parkinson.org), the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (www.michaeljfox.org), or St. John's Methodist Church.
