Dave Alan Calhoun

Dave Alan Calhoun was born in Grand Saline, Texas on October 1, 1957 to Dave Adair Calhoun, Jr. and Mary Jean (Clower) Calhoun.

Alan attended and graduated high school in Grand Saline. After graduation he attended TSTI earning his commercial pilot license. He was a natural pilot and for many years flew B52 freight aircraft. Alan loved the Southwest and moved to the area outside of El Paso, TX. There he designed and manufactured furniture and dealt in Southwest art and décor. He enjoyed studying history and collecting both historic and vintage memorabilia. Alan was very creative and was known for his folk artwork. He also enjoyed spending time in his shop restoring collectable cars.

Alan was very proud of being a Texan. He authored the book, Texas Country Style, in which he wrote "Most Texans can tell you when and where they became aware of this second nationality [of being a Texan]. And then it becomes something you carry with you like a lucky charm, making you feel special, as if it were some sort of divine inheritance. Being from Texas becomes part of your identity."

Alan loved all animals and he took exceedingly good care of his furry companions. He will be greatly missed by his dogs Barbara and Jake, as well as Jim, the cat.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Mary Calhoun. He is survived by his son, Jett Adair Calhoun; his older sister, Carol Calhoun Michalik and her husband Philip Michalik; and his younger sister, Tracy Calhoun and her husband Roger Smith.

A private memorial gathering will return Alan to the Texas he loved so much.
