Remembering Darrell L. Nichols today and every day. A very loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Lydia Nichols; his son, Andrew Large and wife, Suzanne; his daughter, Donna Grier and husband, Sean; his stepson, Donald Romero, and stepson, Ron Romero and wife, Mindy; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His zest for life was contagious along with his crazy sense of humor. Rarely was he seen without a smile on his face or a corny joke ready to tell. He would drop everything to lend a hand or support when needed.
He proudly served our nation in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Italy as an F.A. Corporal Missile Crewman and Rifle Marksman with the Headquarters Battery, 1st Missile Battalion, 82nd Artillery. He came home and raised a beautiful family and worked hard every day as a general contractor. He had a hand in numerous construction projects in Albuquerque and throughout New Mexico. If you said he couldn’t do it, he would make sure he could.
He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important — the simplicity of living a life with those you love. This was only handicapped by his territorial attachment to the remote control.
His later years were spent with his sweetheart of forty years, Lydia. His happy-go-lucky ways will be truly missed by all. God bless you, Dad. You left a legacy to live up to and a family that will always strive to make you proud. We love you to the moon and you will be missed.
