Darrell E. Gebhardt

June 5, 1931 — September 14, 2016

Darrell E. Gebhardt, beloved husband and father, went home to be with our Lord on September 14, 2016. He passed away peacefully after struggling with numerous health issues over the last few years.
Darrell was born in 1931 to Frederick and Mildred Gebhardt in Larimore, North Dakota. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and proudly served for 22 years. He then had a second career with Logicon, an information technology and defense electronics business. He married his wife, Delores, and they were together for 65 years. They were transferred to various locales throughout Darrell's careers with the Navy and Logicon. During that time, they managed to raise four children.
After retiring for the second time, he and Delores spent 18 months touring the United States and Canada in their motorhome, before settling in Sequim, Washington. They later relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico and were able to watch their youngest grandson grow up. Besides traveling, some of Darrell's favorite accomplishments were becoming a master gardener from Washington State University, as well as becoming an accomplished craftsman in woodworking. He also enjoyed organizing and planning for special events, but he truly excelled as a tour guide of historical sites. His real passion was food, and he delighted in sampling all varieties. His favorite cuisine was Asian.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Delores; his daughter, Deborah; his son and daughter-in-law, Fredrick and Karen; his daughter-in-law, Nancy; his grandchildren, Vanessa, Bobby, Jennifer, Bridget and William; his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hailee, Blake, Valerie, Lila Rose, and one on the way, as well as his nephews, James and Fred. Darrell was preceded in death by his sons, Craig and Donald; his brothers, Marvin and Lloyd; his nephews, David and John and his niece, Mary.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Mesa View United Methodist Church, 4701 Montano Road NW in Albuquerque. A private Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
