Darlene Myre

July 14, 1929 — December 29, 2024

Darlene Myre passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 95 on December 29, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, William Charles Myre. She is survived by her sister Pamela Burkhardt, three children John, Laura, and Peggy Myre, as well as four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, or a charity of your choice.

Peggy Darlene Elliott was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Weatherford. Her family relocated to Albuquerque when Darlene was in high school, and she graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1946. She met Bill Myre, who worked for Sandia Labs, and they married in 1952. Darlene loved music, and played guitar in church and in a jug band. She loved plants, especially roses, and was active in the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was a great cook, specializing in New Mexican food, and also had a special interest in Asian cuisine.

She went back to school and received her RN degree from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Albuquerque. She worked as an ICU nurse, at Visiting Nurse's Service, and did some volunteer nursing as well. Darlene played tennis and took up running in her 50's. Despite a fear of swimming, she became a very active SCUBA diver, completing over 60 dives. She went on diving trips to Mexico and the Carribean, and lead senior diving trips. She was a docent at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center for many years, and volunteered to teach ESL for Spanish speakers.

Darlene was adventurous, loving, and always retained her straight-talking Texas roots. She will be greatly missed by all.
