Daniel “Dan” C. Dunne Jr., our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on March 12, 2021 after a short illness.
Dan was born in Elmhurst, New York on March 6, 1940 to Daniel Christopher Dunne Sr and Rosemary (Duncan) Dunne. Dan spent his youth and teen years in Elmhurst, New York and in 1965 he moved to Bethpage, New York. He and his family resided there until 1994, when they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dan loved his adopted city and was a great “tourism advocate” for Albuquerque.
Dan leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Susan; son, Evan; daughter-in-law, Tracey; grandson, Aidan; dear friend, Madison Turner; and many other friends and family members in both Albuquerque and New York.
During his long career, Dan served as Director of Capital Program Management for the New York City Transit Authority for 34 years. In New Mexico, Dan worked for Dillards for 10 years and later became a Program Manager for the City of Albuquerque Department of Municipal Development for 13 years before he retired in 2018. During his time at DMD, Dan shared his expertise in transit and community organization with his colleagues and DMD and his beloved City. Dan also served as a volunteer working with the youth of Long Island and Albuquerque as a leader, Backpack Trainer and Board Member for the Mid-Island Girl Scout Council. He was Cub Scout Leader for his son’s Troop in Long Island, as well as supporting his grandson’s Cub Scout Troop in Albuquerque.
Dan had a wonderful sense of humor and was always quick with a joke. He will be sorely missed. He spread love and laughter wherever he went. His love lives on and shines a light in the hearts of all he knew. He has requested no donations or service. Just remember him with love.
