Daniel M. Swart, a long time Los Alamos resident, passed away peacefully at home on September 18, 2021, at the age of 71.
He was born April 8, 1950 to Leslie and Norma Swart in Canon City, CO and spent his childhood in Los Alamos. Dan graduated from Mayfield High School in Las Cruces; he was a proud member of the Future Farmers of America and rodeo clubs where he developed a taste for riding bulls and horses.
He went on to have a dedicated and decorated career in the Navy during the 1970s. He received a vocational education in pipe fitting and welding at Northern New Mexico College. He worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory after serving his country. Dan was also a proud entrepreneur; he owned and operated Continental Welding Service that served the Los Alamos community.
Dan was a fixer and "gearhead" who liked to customize projects and tinker until he reached the desired result. As a member of the National Rifle Association and North American Hunting Club, he was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and target shooting. A cowboy at heart, he was known for his cowboy hats, Harley Davidson motorcycle rides, and patriotism. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going on long drives, telling stories, and delivering terrible jokes.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Swart; and mother, Norma Swart. He is survived by his son, Matthew Swart and girlfriend, Genna Reeves; son, Benjamin and wife, Natalie Swart; grandchildren, Joseph and Temperance Swart; sister, Jeanna Hoover; nephew, James and wife, Mona Hoover; great-nephew, Ryan Hoover; great-niece, Monique Fuller; niece, Jennifer Babcock-Hoover and husband, Stuart Babcock; great-nephew, James Babcock; great-niece, Jessica Babcock; and beloved dog, Penny.
