On Thursday, July 15, 2021, Dan Sandoval, loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend passed away at the age of 68.
Dan was born on September 11, 1952 in Raton, New Mexico, to Eloy and Betty Sandoval. He attended Highland High School, class of 1970, and later attended the Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute. Serving briefly as a shift manager for Bueno Foods, he later joined Sandia National Laboratories, first as a draftsman transitioning into a technical computer specialist, mastering many programming languages. Dan retired from Sandia National Laboratories after 25 years of service.
Dan balanced his love of all things technical with the joy of nature. He valued fishing trips with grandparents, Ira and Florence Rogers, as well working and rebuilding Chevys and Volkswagens. There was not a carburetor that Dan could not rebuild. He found solace on his small farm in Moriarty, where he tended to crops of organic beans and cilantro. Dan loved all things Sci Fi, from Star Trek to Star Wars. At Highland High School Dan was a varsity athlete on the Hornet Cross Country team.
Dan instilled in himself the value of hard work and dedicated himself to his responsibilities and obligations. His family is infinitely grateful for his care of Betty Sandoval, his mother. As a beloved brother he was the oldest of four. Because of his dedication as an older sibling, Dan was always available to help in any way. Whether it be a building project as simple as making kites to fly at the local school playground, or building fences on his land, he was a skilled and talented person. Dan was especially good at math and was always available to help with any kind of homework. As he grew older there was no project he wasn't willing to help with. He loved finding the best deals, the best reviews of a product to ensure, the best buy. Dan loved all sorts of rock music and when at home would fill the house with music. Dan was also a very generous person. Because of his love for technology, he usually had an "old" item that was still in good use, but not the latest, that was passed along. His warmth and generosity was felt by anyone in his company.
Dan was predeceased by his father, José Eloy Sandoval and survived by his mother, Betty L. Sandoval; brother, John W. Sandoval (Nancy Spencer); sisters, Karen L. Sandoval, Sandy Floyd (Bob Floyd); and nieces and nephews, Stan, Sally, Maya, Daniel, Jared, Alan and Whitney.
